A Visit to the Magic Kingdom

This morning we checked into Port Orleans Riverside and got a room in the Acadian House. The rooms here have not changed a whole lot over the years — almost like visiting a friend’s place. After dropping off our bags, we headed over to the Magic Kingdom and took the Jungle Cruise, rode Magic Carpets of Aladin, visited the Tiki Room, explored Swiss Family Tree House, experienced Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, cruised the Tomorrow Land Transit Authority, and enjoyed Mickey’s Toontown fair. We were going to ride Pirate of the Caribbean, but the theming and presence of Captain Jack made it a little too intimidating for Emily. We ate at El Pirata y el Perico (we’re doing the Disney Dining Plan again this year, but unlike years past, there is no appetizer or gratuity included any longer). The Magic Kingdom is still beautifully decorated for Christmas — this is a new experience for us visiting this time of year. Poinsettias, garlands, and candles seem to be everywhere. As soon as you enter Main Street USA, you can feel the Christmas ambiance in the air.

We left the Magic Kingdom mid-afternoon and drove over to Animal Kingdom Lodge. They have an amazing tree in the lobby. I really think we’re going to need to come and stay here one of these years. We watched the animals out back for a while, then we came in and sit by the fire (it’s a bit chilly!). We had dinner at Boma — one of our favorite restaurants on the property. The food as usual was very good. After dinner we headed back to the hotel to rest up for tomorrow.
