Gratifying my inner-redneck. That’s how I’m framing this trip in my head. Becky, Brandon, and Emily are in Duluth visiting Tom and Linda, so I decided to take a trip with Mom. When it came time to decide on a destination, it needed to be 1) cheap, 2) within a day’s drive, 3) someplace I had never been, and 4) did I mention the cheap part? Since I grew up with my parents listening to country music, it has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Plus, it would be something Mom would enjoy. It seemed Nashville fit the criteria exactly. When I realized as mom gets older, there may not be many other trips with her, it makes it also a bit of a sentimental journey. We left at 4:30 this morning to beat rush hour traffic and arrived just after 6pm. We had breakfast around Front Royal at a McDonald’s, Starbucks in Harrisonsburg, lunch at McDonald’s near Bristol, and dinner at a Shoney’s here in Nashville. (Again, CHEAP).

We are staying in a Residence in (only $89/night!). Before dinner we drove around the area to familiarize ourselves with the places we’ll be visiting and ran into a place called “Cooter’s Garage” with a familiar orange Dodge Charger parked out front. (inner redneck rejoice)
