We slept in again today and had an early lunch across the street at McDonald’s — it tasted just as you would expect it to in the U.S. We then took Tram 5 up to the Agnes Monastery, but I forgot it was closed on Mondays. So, we ended up walking over to the Jewish Quarter and going to the Old-New Synagogue – perhaps the most overpriced part of our trip. It was $10 for a visit to a small building with little historical interpretation provided. It was indisputably historic, but you didn’t get a lot for the money.

Prague Astronomical Clock Video
We strolled past the Jewish cemetery and then visited the Baroque St. Nicolas of Old Town Square. Following this we watched the hour strike at the Old Town Hall Astronomical Clock. Statues of the 12 Apostles parade past, a mechanical cock crows, and the bells mark the time.
We walked by Tyn Church and peeked through the door, but it was also closed Mondays. It looked impressive so we will be sure to stop by tomorrow. Walking over to Wenceslas Square, we did some shopping at Bontonland – billed as the largest music and movie store in Central Europe. We ended up purchasing some CDs from popular Czech singers.
We went back to Palac Flora and strolled around the store, including the pet store. They had a couple of pygmy marmosets at $2000 apiece – not pets I would expect to see for sale in the U.S. We dined at the Orange Moon – a Thai, Burmese, and Indian cuisine place. We had very spicy hot and sour soup (Becky wasn’t able to eat it) and curry chicken (me) and chicken fried rice (Becky) as our main courses.
After dinner we went to the gelato place for cones: vanilla (me) and peppermint (Becky). There was a moment of confusion when they couldn’t break the 50Kc note we had (about $25). We scrounged our remaining change including some Euros to pay for it.
