York Vignettes

Breakfasted at the Table Table restaurant and had a nice buffet. Walked along the wall in the other direction toward the Castle Museum. Lovely scenes of domestic life in York throughout the ages. Many items Mom would have found familiar (i.e. crocheted toilet paper roll covers, farm implements, etc). The museum had recreations from the 40s, the Victorian Era, and the Sixties.

Next we visited Jorvich – an audio-animatronic Disney-like recreation of a Viking village. The archaeology bit at the end was interesting, but the rest was an overpriced tourist trap.  Any attraction the includes potty humor and sound effects doesn’t fit my perception of a quality stop.

Lunch was an altogether more refined affair at Betty’s Tea Rooms. We had traditional afternoon tea with salmon, chicken, ham and egg sandwiches; sultana scones and clotted cream; short bread; and strawberry tarts.

We ended the day touring the National Railway Museum before heading back to the room. We collected our laundry (a bargain at only ten pounds a load) then had dinner at Table Table – lamb meat pie, mash, and several pints of Carling beer.
