We are back in the hotel after some light sightseeing today. We took a walk around the airport in search of an ATM which was down one long corridor, not centrally placed like you would suspect. Luckily they were near the transit kiosk where we bought our seven day passes for the metro. We then caught bus 119 from Platform C (bit of confusion here as the bus is evidently now numbered something differently than when the tourbooks were written). Luckily we knew the destination name where we needed to catch the metro. The bus took us past some ramshackle suburban areas. Once on the metro, it was a quick ride to the Flora stop where our hotel was. We exited out through the Palac Flora shopping mall (a beautiful three story facility), and our Courtyard hotel was only 1/2 block away. We were able to do an early check-in, and we have a spacious room with all the standard Marriott amenities you would expect anywhere.
After checking in, we took Tram 22 up to Pražský hrad (Prague Castle). Rick Steves warned about pickpockets, so we kept our valuables stored safely away in money belts. We walked to the castle past the breathtakingly large St. Vitus Cathedral. After stopping for some photos, we continued on through the Palace complex and wondered down the charming streets to Karlův most (Charles Bridge). This bridge still sees thousands of people crossing it daily despite being over six centuries old. We ended up eating at a restaurant called Wolfgang off Skorepka. The place was kind of a tourist trap I am afraid. We had goulash, beef fillet in gravy, dumplings and potato soup. We ended up the day buying toiletries at a supermarket off Wenceslas Square and a calling card at a corner shop. We returned to the hotel for a quick nap before it was time to call the kids.
